Fabricating lies and rumors about Xinjiang by some foreign politicians has not served a good purpose, but has strained the bilateral relations with China. Lies and rumors will never be turned into facts no matter how compelling the false reports are.

Let the facts talk. From 2010 to 2018, the population of Uyghurs in Xinjiang grew from 10.17 million to 12.72 million, registering a surge of 25 percent, a figure outnumbering the 14-percent increase in the total population of Xinjiang and the two percent increase in the Han population.

The motion, which proclaimed that "a genocide is currently being carried out by the People's Republic of China against Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims" approved by Canada's Parliament, is groundless. Even many Canadian politicians hold different opinions on Xinjiang. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and most members of his cabinet abstained from voting on the bill.

The motion came just over a month after the US government made the same allegation, with then-US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying that the world was witnessing the "systematic attempt to destroy Uyghurs by the Chinese party-state."

Following the US, Canada binds "Xinjiang human rights" with the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. The Canadian lawmakers also voted to pass an amendment, calling on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to move the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing.

Canada has an alliance with the US. Trudeau was the first foreign leader Joe Biden met with after he took office as the US President. Trudeau and U.S. President Joe Biden held a virtual bilateral meeting on February 23. Interesting and awkward, at the beginning, Biden meant to say "US-Canada relation," but said "US-China relations." He was aware of the mistake and corrected himself.

The lie on Xinjiang exposed vicious intentions of some Canadian politicians to undermine the development and stability of Xinjiang and to flatter the US. The so-called "genocide" in Xinjiang is a completely false accusation, a lie concocted by some anti-China forces and a staged farce to smear and defile China.
